Do I really need to double cleanse?
What is the deal with double cleansing? It took me a while to get on the bandwagon, but the extra 30 seconds at night seems worth it. No matter my cleanser, I always seemed to have remnants of the day on my face after washing my face. So I tried double cleansing, first with an oil cleanser and then finishing off with a water-based cleanser. And from the first time I tried it I was hooked. It turns out, even if you don’t wear make-up, double cleansing is preferable and leaves your skin primed and ready for your serum(s) or retinol of choice - it actually improves the efficacy of your products so they can be that much more effective.
The oil cleanser melts away sunscreen, sebum and pollutants from the day and the second cleanse is then able to eliminate water-based impurities like sweat and dirt. I have tried several different oil cleansers and always resort back to this one as it has a great texture - not too oily and not too thick - while also having enzymes in it to offer some subtle exfoliating. For my second cleanse I have a couple I use in rotation;
Aesop Parsley Seed Face Cleanser -a clarifying formula that removes surface impurities and has mild exfoliation from Lactic Acid. Youth to the People Superfood Kale Cleanser. - an antioxidant-packed gel cleanser that effectively removes any residue, leaving skin hydrated and glowing.
