More than just the sunshine vitamin, it’s the powerhouse you didn’t know how much you needed

Likely you are familiar with Vitamin D being important for bone health, but it does so much more. It quietly optimizes functions across our immune system, metabolism, and even skin health. And the truth? Many of us are unknowingly running low. For me, sunscreen is a ritual, rain or shine, however, it also blocks out the goodness of the sun that we actually need.

More than a mood booster, Vitamin D helps to alleviate fatigue and brain fog. It also is vital to our immunity, it regulates both innate and adaptive immune responses, helping your body detect and fight off infections—especially respiratory ones. And as we know, it is vital to our bone health as it aids calcium absorption, and it also helps regulate phosphate levels, which are key to cellular repair and regeneration. The other often “unknown” fact is that taking Vitamin D in conjunction with Vitamin K together they synergistically support both bone strength and cardiovascular health. In combination they activate proteins that guide calcium into the bones and teeth—and away from arteries, joints, and organs. Vitamin D tells your body to absorb calcium and Vitamin K tells your body what to do with it. The easiest way to take them both is in a D3 + K2 supplement.

Vitamin D is not really known as a skin supplement, but maybe it should. It is anti-inflammatory, supports skin cell turnover and some research also links it to enhanced skin barrier function—meaning it may be quietly supporting your glow from within.

So whether it’s through sunlight, supplements, or fortified foods (Fatty fish, like salmon, egg yolks, mushrooms, or fortified dairy/ plant milks) — your body (and skin) will thank you.
