Sculptura 101

Sculptura? Is that a filler? Not exactly. You may already know about sculptura or maybe you’ve heard about it. Often people think of it as a filler, but it really is so much more than that.   Most importantly it is a biostimulatory agent that works with your own genetics to increase and build collagen.

It was explained to me as it helps retain and build the framework  of the face - if you imagine you have scaffolding that holds up our skin it is reinforcing that scaffolding by furthering collagen production which in turn helps to thicken and smooth the outer layer of the skin. It is most often placed around the frame of our face (think temples, jawline, upper cheekbone) to help retain our youthful face shape. For instance, as we get older our temples can start to hollow out - sculptura helps them recapture their fullness while sustaining it over time as it enables our collagen to increase in that area. Some additional research has been done and to get into the nitty gritty science of it all - here is a bit more detail of how it impacts our skin genes;

ELN: This encodes your tropolastin and in simple terms it increases your skin elasticity as well as aids in your skin texture and tone

MMP10:This is your type I Collagen and its impact is that it will help to reduce inflammation

DKKI: Regulates skin thickness and pigmentation - leaving you with thicker, more even-toned skin

MT1A: Increases antioxidants, leaving you with less free radicals and more radiant skin

HGF: Hepatocyte Growth Factor regulates our cell growth and helps to better revitalize our skin

Sculptura is also a great treatment you can do year round without worry about sun sensitivity. As with any injectable, try and stay away from alcohol, ibuprofen or any other blood thinning supplements or foods a few days prior - not that there is any danger in having them, however they can increase the chances of a bruise. A couple of other things to note, you may see an immediate glow to your skin, however, the real magic will happen over time and have more significant impact after 3-4 months — it takes some time for the collagen production process. Also, there is a bit of “self-maintenance” post procedure. You will need to do what is referred to as the “555”. Massage your face (upward where you had the injections) 5 minutes, 5 times a day for 5 days. All I can say, is be patient.. it’s worth it in the long run.
